DAVID KASSAN BIO:
As an expression of his own calculated observation and visual consumption of surrounding environment, introspective glimpses of reality imbue the art of David Jon Kassan. By immersing himself into his subject matter, Kassan is able to infuse his painting with life and realism. Kassan's direction of realism follows the philosophies employed by the Ashcan School of American Realists. Kassan's influences are varied; citing Robert Henri and John Sloan as his primary influences on philosophy and subject matter. As for style and technique he cites Antonio Lopez Garcia, Mark Rothko, Franz Kline and Clyfford Still as influences as well.
DAVID KASSAN LECTURE INFORMATION:
Fine Artist David Kassan will present a slide presentation of his work and demo his drawing techniques from the live model. Students will draw from the live model during the course of the session.

Light refreshments will be provided.

JAMES GURNEY BIO:
James Gurney is the author and illustrator of the New York Times bestselling Dinotopia book series. He designed the World of Dinosaurs stamps for the U.S. Postal Service and has worked on over a dozen assignments for National Geographic magazine, painting reconstructions of Moche, Kushite, and Etruscan civilizations. He has won the Hugo, Chesley, Spectrum, and World Fantasy Awards. Solo exhibitions of his artwork have been presented at the Smithsonian Institution, the Norman Rockwell Museum, and the Norton Museum of Art. His most recent book, Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter (2010) was the #1 bestselling art-instruction book on Amazon.com and is based on his blog gurneyjourney.blogspot.com.
JAMES GURNEY LECTURE INFORMATION:
The presentation will include two back to back lectures: “Imaginative Realism: How to Paint What Doesn’t Exist” and “Color and Light”. James will also do a short Demo following the Lectures. There will be a book signing and book sale following the Lectures and Demo.

TONY KIEME BIO:
Tony Kieme has taught 'Concept-Art' classes at Art Center College of Design, Otis College of Art and Design, Laguna College of Art and Design, and Gnomon School of Visual Effects. Some of his film work includes designing robots for Transformers, storyboarding for The Matrix:Reloaded and Matrix:Revolutions, conceiving creatures for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, and conceptually illustrating images for the Watchmen. He has also developed concepts for various commercials and music-videos, such as Wu-Tang's Swarm set designs. Tony Kieme has additionally curated and managed an 'urban-art' gallery, co-founded a clothing business, and studied the craft of filmmaking. He is now pursuing a Fine-Arts background in conceptual photography. Tony Kieme attended Art Center College of Design for a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Design.
TONY KIEME LECTURE INFORMATION:
Concept Artist Tony Kieme will present a slide presentation of his work and discuss his career in the film industry. He will also present a brief demo of his working process and discuss his work. A Q&A Session will follow his Presentation + Demo. Tony will talk one on one with attendees following the presentation.
Light refreshments will be provided.

We are extending the deadline to Register for Fall 2011 at Korpus School of Art until this Saturday, Sept. 3!
*Tuition received by close of business this Saturday, Sept. 3: $480 per class + a once per session $10 Registration Fee = $490
*Tuition received after close of business Saturday, Sept. 3: $505 per class (includes a $25 late fee) + a once per session $10 Registration Fee = $515

DIRECTIONS:
We are located on the 3rd floor of the 3 story chocolate brown building that is on the right of Factory Place as you are coming from Alameda. You will see our sign on the upper left of the building, and you will see our 5 windows facing downtown LA as you approach the building. The building has an indoor elevator, and is wheelchair accessible through an outdoor wheelchair lift.
There is free street parking in front of the brown building.
GLENN VILPPU DRAWING WORKSHOP INFORMATION:
The workshop will include how to capture the action of the pose and then build upon it to create drawings with vitality. Vilppu is well known for conveying complex principles in simple, understandable terms to artists of beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of ability. Come prepared to draw from the live model as Vilppu masterfully demos and lectures on gesture drawing from life.
*Please bring your own drawing materials. Some drawing materials may be available for sale only at Korpus, but supplies may be very limited. Drawing benches, some easels, and light refreshments will be provided. Space is limited to about 20 participants, so sign up early!
*Please note: While attendees may attend either or both the morning and afternoon sessions, it is recommended that those who can only attend one session attend the morning session, since the afternoon will build on the morning lesson.

Welcome to the Korpus School of Art + Gallery!
Founded in 2011, KSA+G was established to teach, promote, and showcase traditional figurative art. The Korpus School of Art is primarily dedicated to teaching traditional drawing, painting, and sculpture. We also have a minor focus on digital painting. KSA offers programs for high school students through adults. The Korpus Gallery is dedicated to showcasing the work of local, national, and international traditional and digital artists. We are housed in a beautifully converted former factory in the Factory Place Arts Complex in the heart of the Arts District in Downtown L.A. Please visit our Contact page for maps + directions.
